Burlap Monogram Canvas

I had an 11x14 canvas that I wasn't going to use.  I have also not really ever used nail head trim but wanted to!  So, I decided to attempt something for my mantle.
First, I cut out the burlap, then used my trusty Silhouette machine to cut out the W with vinyl.  I placed that on the burlap, then used white fabric paint and sponge brushed it on.
I let the paint dry and pulled off the vinyl.  At that point, I used my staple gun and stapled around the back edges, pulling the burlap tight in the corners.  I finally was able to use the nail heads, which not only looks great but also keeps the burlap in place.
That's it! Quick and easy!!

Kids Bathroom Hand Towel

I recently purchased a new sewing machine.  I purchased this machine because it also does embroidery.  So, I decided to make a hand towel for my daughter being that she loves to wash her hands or anything else for that matter :)  First, I went to the Dollar General and bought a package of two hand towels for $3.50, then picked some fabric from my "stash".  I used my silhouette to cut out the whale.  Once again I love this thing!  It will be used in several other posts as well.  I also purchased the sewable interfacing from the silhouette store
This stuff is great!  Once it is ironed on the back of the fabric you just iron it on what ever you want to sew, it keeps it in place wonderfully.  (I did this both with the whale and the circle with the K)

I cut out the polkadot fabric and turned the edges under at that point I once again used the silhouette fabric interfacing, placed it on the back.  Then, placed it on the towel and sewed into place.

At that point, I embroidered the K onto the blue fabric, then cut a 4 inch circle template on my silhouette, flipped the fabric over and traced the circle, cut that out and sewed into place.
I have to say this is probably one of my most favorite projects yet.  But after looking at this, doing it again I probably would line the blue fabric with white fabric...  Still love it though!!

Chalkboard Pillow

I have loved the blog ideas for several years now and have so many different blogs in my "favorites" list that I look at daily.  The ideas floating around out there (along with the fact that I love cute things for my sweet daughter) have inspired me to find the crafty side of myself.  Which I have been doing for a few years now.  Crafting/creating has become something that I crave.  That is funny because before my daughter I had no interest........  Motherhood changes a person and for me, has helped me find out what I really enjoy in life! :)
On to my project....  I saw this chalkboard fabric project on infarrantly creative and thought the idea was adorable!  So, I had to try it.

First, I ordered the chalkboard fabric from fabric.com  Once I got it in I couldn't wait to get started.  I purchased some cute fabric from Hobby Lobby and got to work.

First, I took a pillow that I wasn't using, took the pillow out and used the fabric as my pattern.  I cut out two pieces of my new fabric

Then, I took the chalkboard fabric, placed it in my Silhouette machine (which by the way is one of the best purchases I have ever made!!!  If you don't have one I strongly suggest getting one:) I figured that the machine wouldn't cut all the way thru the fabric as it is a little thicker than regular fabric but it did do exactly what I wanted it to do which was basically perforate the shape so I could cut it perfectly.  The design I chose was perfect since I am redoing my daughters room in "Retro Barbie".   I flipped the barbie head to the back and then sprayed it with some adhesive that way this would stick to the fabric so that I could sew it easily in place.

At that point I was ready to sew!  Now, I am basically a beginner so it isn't perfect but I am very pleased with the end result and that is all that matters to me.  I sewed around the Barbie head, then placed the other fabric with this (good sides together) and sewed around the edges, flipped it inside out and placed the old pillow back in.

My daughter LOVES her new pillow because she can write on it.
