I have loved the blog ideas for several years now and have so many different blogs in my "favorites" list that I look at daily. The ideas floating around out there (along with the fact that I love cute things for my sweet daughter) have inspired me to find the crafty side of myself. Which I have been doing for a few years now. Crafting/creating has become something that I crave. That is funny because before my daughter I had no interest........ Motherhood changes a person and for me, has helped me find out what I really enjoy in life! :)
On to my project.... I saw this chalkboard fabric project on infarrantly creative and thought the idea was adorable! So, I had to try it.
First, I ordered the chalkboard fabric from fabric.com Once I got it in I couldn't wait to get started. I purchased some cute fabric from Hobby Lobby and got to work.
First, I took a pillow that I wasn't using, took the pillow out and used the fabric as my pattern. I cut out two pieces of my new fabric
Then, I took the chalkboard fabric, placed it in my Silhouette machine (which by the way is one of the best purchases I have ever made!!! If you don't have one I strongly suggest getting one:) I figured that the machine wouldn't cut all the way thru the fabric as it is a little thicker than regular fabric but it did do exactly what I wanted it to do which was basically perforate the shape so I could cut it perfectly. The design I chose was perfect since I am redoing my daughters room in "Retro Barbie". I flipped the barbie head to the back and then sprayed it with some adhesive that way this would stick to the fabric so that I could sew it easily in place.
At that point I was ready to sew! Now, I am basically a beginner so it isn't perfect but I am very pleased with the end result and that is all that matters to me. I sewed around the Barbie head, then placed the other fabric with this (good sides together) and sewed around the edges, flipped it inside out and placed the old pillow back in.
My daughter LOVES her new pillow because she can write on it.
I'm linking up to some of my favorites!

The things they make chalk board out of. When I was young, it was just the big old black boards at the front of a classroom...man, were we missing out. Such a cute chalk board craft!
Thanks!! I would have loved this when I was little! We really did miss out...lol
I've never heard of chalkboard fabric. How fun!! The pillow turned out adorable.
